Led by my curiosity and a recommendation from my friend Henrik, I started reading Shinzen Young's book The Science of Enlightenment and began practicing meditation on a daily basis.
This really resonated, Jennifer. I’ve been thinking a lot about sitting with discomfort and wrote about Hot & Cold therapy recently. I did another class this weekend and sitting in the cold plunge pool, breathing through the discomfort taught me that acceptance and surrendering my mind and body to the feeling actually helped me get through it more easily than fighting it. I also felt so much better for having done it (vs immediately getting out the water and seeking comfort) x
I had the same reaction after about 30s in the pool. To be fair I don’t know how long it lasted. But at some point the thought came in my head, “that was cold, it might hurt me”. Once the worry came in, there was resistance again then I left the pool quickly after. But the glimpse of the tranquil focusing state gave me hope that next time I do it, I can lasted a little longer with accepting mind.
You can! My class on Sunday was a guided session and I started with 1-2mins in, then next round we were challenged to see if we could try 2-3mins and then the last round was only 1min but in a colder temperature. It’s so interesting how it’s all in your mind. And I did feel myself getting to that tranquil focusing state x

I will contemplate trying it. You piqued my interests.
